Warning Issued For Multaq Patients

The FDA is notifying heart patients treating with Multaq (dronedarone) and health professionals about cases of rare, but severe liver injury resulting from taking the drug.  Two of the cases have caused acute liver failure in patients leading to liver transplants.

Dronedarone is used to treat abnormal heart rhythm in patients who have had an abnormal heart rhythm during the past six months.  Information about the potential risk of liver injury from dronedarone is being added to the Warnings and Precautions as well as the Adverse Reactions sections of the labels.

Patients experiencing signs and symptoms of liver injury or toxicity (anorexia, nausea, vomiting, fever, malaise, fatigue, right upper quadrant pain, jaundice, dark urine, or itching) while taking dronedarone should contact their healthcare professionals immediately.

Search for Cause of Massive Fire Under Way

Investigators are still trying to determine what caused the five-alarm fire that destroyed a West Philadelphia apartment building Monday afternoon.  All of the residents who were at home escaped, but there were about 110 people left homeless as the fire engulfed the building over a period of five hours.

Although no one was seriously injured, one person was taken to the hospital for minor smoke inhalation.  Fire crews could not locate the source of the fire last night, but were expected to continue investigating the cause.  One resident said no fire alarms went off to warn him to get out of the apartment building.

Snowblowers Recalled, Potential Fire Risk

American Honda Motor Co. Inc. issued a recall for various snowblowers it sold from April 2005 through November 2010.  The fuel tank joint and o-ring on the tanks can seep or drip fuel over time and poses a potential fire hazard.  There have been 90 reports of fuel seeping or dripping.

The snowblowers affected are red and black.  Approximately 18,500 machines have been affected by the recall.   They are model number HS724, frame serial number SZBE-1037913 through 1046577; model number HS928, frame serial number SZAS-1151080 through 1169012 and model number HS1132, frame serial number SZBF-1018734 through 1025998.  Consumers should stop using the product immediately and contact a Honda Power Equipment dealer for instructions.
