P&G Recalls 4 Hour Decongestant Nasal Spray in US

The Procter & Gamble Company announced they are voluntarily recalling its 4-Hour Decongestant Nasal Spray. The product was distributed nationwide in the United States.

P&G said it is taking this voluntary precautionary step after finding that the product formulation may not meet the expiration dates on the package. This recall is not a result of consumer complaints.

P&G is removing the product in question from store shelves. Consumers who have product with the UPC codes listed below and marked with an expiration date prior to June 2013 should simply discard the affected product.

The product name is: VapoSpray 4 Hour Nasal Spray by Sinex with a UPC code of 3 23900 00082 7. Prior to June 2009, this product was also sold as Sinex Nasal Spray in both a spray (UPC Code 3 23900 00082 7) and Ultra Fine Mist package (UPC Code 3 23900 00085 8).

Equate Ibuprofen Recall – Metal Shavings in Bottles

L. Perrigo Co has recalled one lot of Equate Ibuprofen 200 mg tablets packaged in bottles of 100 tablets. These recalled Equate Ibuprofen tablets have lot number 9BE1961 printed on the label or stamped on the bottle. The pills are being recalled because there may be metal shavings in the containers.

2 million crib recall

In its ongoing effort to halt the use of dangerous drop-side cribs, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a 2 million crib recall involving seven companies including Evenflo, Child Craft and the maker of the Babi Italia line.

The crib companies and the number of cribs involved in these recalls are:

• Evenflo, 750,000 Jenny Lind models
• Delta Enterprise Corp., 747,000 drop-side plus every model that uses a wood stabilizer bar
• LaJobi, 306,000 Bonavita, Babi Italia and ISSI brand cribs
• Million Dollar Baby, 156,000
• Jardine Enterprises, 130,000 sold exclusively by Toys R Us/Babies R Us
• Simmons Juvenile Products Inc., 50,000
• Child Craft, two recalls involving drop-side and stationary side cribs (total unknown because the company is out of business.

The cribs involved in this set of recalls account for 250 incidents and 27 injuries to infants and toddlers that have been reported to the CPSC.  This string of recalls brings to 9 million the number of drop-side cribs recalled over the past five years.

Campbell Soup recalls 15 million pounds of SpaghettiOs

Campbell Soup Co. is recalling nearly 15 million pounds of canned SpaghettiOs with meatballs because of possible under-processing, the U.S. agriculture department said.

The recall includes 14.75-ounce cans with a use-by date between June 2010 and December 2011 of three varieties of the product: "SpaghettiOs with Meatballs," "SpaghettiOs A to Z with Meatballs" and "SpaghettiOs Fun Shapes with Meatballs (Cars)."

Consumers who have purchased those products with a plant code of "EST4K" should not eat them and should return them to the store where they were purchased for an exchange or full refund, Campbell Soup said.

The agriculture department also said it had received no reports of illnesses from consumption of the products.

The cans were produced in Paris, Texas, between December 2008 and June 2010, and shipped to retail customers nationwide, according to Campbell Soup.

Five lots of Benadryl, Tylenol added to drug recall

The maker of Benadryl and Tylenol has added five lots of the popular over-the-counter drugs to its growing list of recalled products, McNeil Consumer Healthcare announced Wednesday in a written statement.


Saying the drugs were "inadvertently omitted from the initial recall action" of January 15, McNeil disclosed it was voluntarily recalling four lots of Benadryl Allergy Ultratab Tablets (100 count) and one lot of Extra Strength Tylenol Rapid Release Gels (50 count).

The Johnson and Johnson subsidiary said customers should call 1-888-222-6036 or use the website www.mcneilproductrecall.com for more information on how to receive a refund or replacement product.

The drugs were sold in the United States and in Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago.

GE Recalls Front Load Washers Due to Fire and Shock Hazards

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of 181,000 GE Front Load Washers due to fire and shock hazards. This recall involves GE front-load washing machines without auxiliary water heating.

In the front load washers, a wire can break in the machine and make contact with a metal part on the washtub while the machine is operating, posing fire and shock hazards to consumers.

Recalled washing machines were manufactured between December 2006 and February 2010. The model and serial numbers are located on the bottom right side and on the bottom door frame of the washers. The washing machines were sold at department and various retail stores nationwide from December 2006 through May 2010 for about $700.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled washers, unplug it from the electrical outlet and contact GE for a free repair. Consumers should not operate the washer until it has been repaired.

P&G Recalls Specific Canned Cat Food

The Procter & Gamble Company (P&G) is voluntarily recalling specific lots of its Iams canned cat food in North America as a precautionary measure. Diagnostic testing indicated that the product may contain insufficient levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1), which is essential for cats. Cats that were fed these canned products as their only food are at greater risk for developing signs of thiamine deficiency.

This recall is limited to only Iams canned cat food distributed in North America. No other Iams pet food is involved.

Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include loss of appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. In advanced cases, signs may include ventroflexion (downward curving) of the neck, wobbly gait, falling, circling and seizures. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your cat is displaying any of these signs. If treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible.
