Hyundai, Continental Tire Issue Recalls

Hyundai is recalling about 285,000 Elantras in two separate actions.  An electronic noise, which might cause the driver-side air bag to inflate with full force, is responsible for the recall 96,000 vehicles from the 2007-2008 model years.  An additional 189,000 Elantras from 2007-2009 are being recalled because liquid spilled in the front-console cup holder could leak through and cause an electrical problem.  The condition could trigger the deployment of the passenger air bag, even if the occupant weighs so little that the bag should not inflate.

Airbag related injuries range from minor scrapes, bruises and scratches to more serious injuries such as head trauma, a broken nose, chest injuries, or injuries to the fingers, hands and arms.  In severe cases, injuries can be fatal.

Continental Tire has also issued a massive recall.  The tire manufacturer is recalling 391,000 of its truck tires because the tires are vulnerable to tread separation.  The truck tires, most of which were original equipment on 2008-2009 Ford F-250 and F-350 pickups, might experience uneven wear or vibration.  In the worst cases, when they are overloaded or underinflated, a separation between the belt edges can occur, potentially leading to a tread detachment.

So far, Continental is aware of a January 2011 crash caused by the tires that resulted in a death.

The attorneys at Messa and Associates have successfully represented many victims of defective motor vehicles and motor vehicle component parts including tires.  If you or a loved one has been seriously injured by one of the recalled Hyundai Elantras or the defective Continental Tires, please contact us at 1-877-MessaLaw.
