$2.154 Million Verdict for Messa & Associates Client

Messa & Associates obtained a $2,154,583.73 unanimous verdict for a family against Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Attending, ob/gyn Peter Chen, M.D. at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania for negligence occurring during the birth of their child in March of 2006.  The Plaintiffs child was deprived of oxygen for a period of 15 to 20 minutes due to a placental abruption.

The Defendants failed to perform a prompt Cesarean section delivery of the baby before brain injury occurred, which caused cerebral palsy.  The child died at 17 months of age as a result of complications of cerebral palsy in August of 2007.

The two-week trial was heard before Judge Frederica Massiah-Jackson in the Philadelphia County Court of Common Pleas.  Richard J. Heleniak of Messa & Associates, P.C. served as counsel for the Plaintiffs.
