Dorel Juvenile Group issued a recall for nearly 800,000 child seats because their harnesses may not hold the child securely posing a danger to children traveling in the restraints in the event of an accident. A harness is designed to catch and restrain a child in the event the child moves forward in the seat, as they would in a crash. A loosened harness puts children at additional risks for being thrown from their seat in the event of an accident resulting in head, neck, chest or other critical injury.
Several different models of boosters, convertible and infant seats, including some sold as part of a stroller travel system, are affected by the recall.
The company has received 143 complaints of the front harness loosening on the seats sold under the brand names Safety 1st, Maxi-Cosi, Cosco and Eddie Bauer. They were manufactured from May 1, 2008 to April 30, 2009.
