Seven Million Candles Recalled for Fire Risk

Pacific Trade International Inc. is recalling more than seven million tea light candles because the cup can melt or ignite, posing a fire and burn risk to consumers.

The recall involves tea lights sold under the brand names Chesapeake Bay Candle and Modern Light.  The candles are in various colors and were sold in sets or with tea light container.  Fred Meyer, Home Goods, Marshalls, Super Value, Target, TJ Maxx and Wegmans stores nationwide sold the products between July 2009 and February 2011 for between $1 and $12.

One report of the plastic cup melting while in use has been made.  Consumers should immediately stop using this product.

Messa & Associates has handled many burn and fire cases caused by candles which resulted in significant injuries and death.  Our attorneys have been successful in litigating cases and obtaining substantial awards in these matters including a $2.9 million dollar settlement for a child burned by a potpourri pot and a $3.7 million dollar settlement for the death of a Philadelphia child due to an apartment fire.  If you or a loved one has suffered serious injuries resulting from the use of tea light candles affected by this recall, please contact us at 1-877-MessaLaw.
