Head Injury Hazard Prompts Recall of Bicycle Helmets

Approximately 33,600 full-face bicycle helmets are being recalled by Bell Sports because the plastic buckle that connects the chin straps can fail.  The defect can cause the helmet to come off the wearer's head and pose a head injury risk to riders in the event of a fall.

The helmets were sold in youth size at Wal-Mart stores nationwide and on Amazon.com between August 2009 and March 2011 for between $50 and $60.  One person was injured and required stitches when a buckle on the helmet failed during an accident.

Consumers should stop using the helmets immediately.
